daily moments – week 51

One more week until the big day! For us that means travel. We leave next Sunday so I will attempt to have the blog ready before we leave early. So grateful school is out for winter break! And today feels slow and relaxing. We have been doing lots of Christmasy activities and staying busy. Here’s our week . . .

This was the first of 8 loaves we baked this week. All, except one, went to teachers and friends.IMG_8564

Daily Moments – Week 50

Its almost Christmas! Its been crazy and I’m sure you are feeling it, too. At this point though, I’m restfully sitting in a La-Z-Boy while watching the news and Silas play with blocks. I can say I’m fairly relaxed now, but at this point last week I was a crazy lady trying to get everything ready for the school parties, Christmas gatherings, and sending out our annual card and the many gifts to our friends and family that live far away.  Its over and I’m grateful that I’m standing on the other side.

Here is a peek at our week . . .

Christmas came and landed in my dining room.

Daily Moments – Week 2

Hello Friends –

I’m back with a series of photos that captures our week. After writing this post, I realized most of the photos are of Silas. So to balance it out, I’m attaching a video of Brooks at the end. He is singing a song he recently learned at preschool about snowflakes.

Almond crossiants. If  you have a Trader Joe’s nearby you must get these. They are in the frozen section. Continue reading

Bread and Figs

I’ve been baking for what seems like days, but I guess it really has been days. I think its the weather. Its gotten into the 70s here (and I know some of you are already experiencing flakes of snow, which to honest, I would love that a few times a year) and its made a baker out of me. I think Pinterest had something to do with it, as well.

After looking at a few of my favorite food blogs, I saw these. Wow! I’m trying to become of a fan of figs. Not just a,”Oh, yes. I like figs”, but a “I can’t stop eating these!” fig eater. (My grammar is so horrible. I blame it on my 8th grade English teacher. I got a C in her class, which made me never want to care about prepositions, nouns, or adverbs.) We have a fig tree in our backyard and we were lucky enough to get two this year, but the squirrels took a few nibbles before we got to them. Also, my mother-in-law is a fig fan and I would like to be able to share her enthusiasm. So this was my first attempt at cooking with figs. I think it turned out fantastic.

In case you are curious, that’s brown sugar and olive oil oozing over the figs. This was right before I placed them in the oven and roasted them for about 10 minutes. Yum.
