This summer my extended family rented a house at Destin. We were a bit apprehensive about the condition of the water based on what the media had told us about the oil spill. Fortunately, we decided to go – oil or no oil it was the beach and we wanted to be together. The first night, we did see a few tar-balls (see below), but that was the only time we really noticed any oil.

Even though the oil wasn’t a problem, we did have algae. Normally, Destin beaches are crystal clear, but that week we had several yards of algae before the clear sandbar which is where we spent most of our time. In the picture above, Brooks is getting a kayak ride from his dad.

Brooks was feed endless amounts of blueberries the whole week – he was very happy.

He played in the sand, which he surprisingly really liked.

He played RockBand with his aunts, Grammy, and cousins.
He also was a help in the kitchen.
He loved all the attention showered on him by his cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents.

Mark and I took advantage of the free babysitting and celebrated our anniversary by going para sailing.

Three generations – my mom, me, and Brooks.

Whats a beach vacation without a plethora of family beach photos?

We had a wonderful time and were sad to see everyone leave. It was a wonderful getaway for all of us.
